Hosting the third of WFTDA’s 2011 Big 5 Tournaments, Show Me Der-B-Q, the Kansas City Roller Warriors are proud to invite folks from the derby-verse to Kansas City, Missouri, the weekend of Sept. 30-Oct. 2. The South Central Region Playoffs will be held at Municipal Auditorium.
The tournament, named after Kansas City’s well-known barbecue cuisine, promises to be spicy as well. The 2010 South Central Region Playoffs offered various upsets, with #7 No Coast Derby Girls, also the hosts of the 2010 tournament, entering at #8 and finishing at #5. As the #1 seed going in to the tournament, Kansas City Roller Warriors hope to maintain their position while the other teams duke it out for second and third place, and a trip to the WFTDA Championships in Denver, Colorado.
“The Roller Warriors are excited to host the South Central Region [Playoff] Tournament, bringing hard-hitting derby action to Kansas City and welcoming the derby community to our home,” said KCRW Marketing Director Maria Carter, aka Bubonic Peg. “Of course, we’re proud our barbequed burnt ends and ribs too. Show Me Der-B-Q will serve up derby Kansas City style!”
Located in downtown Kansas City, Municipal Auditorium is an ideal location for fans, both of roller derby and other forms of entertainment. The venue is within walking distance of several local hot spots, including the Power and Light District. It has also played host to several NCAA Final Fours, more than any other venue in the country.
“Kansas City has lots to offer visitors, from the Crossroads Arts District to shopping on the Country Club Plaza to the nationally recognized Nelson Atkins Museum of Art and Negro League Baseball Museum,” Carter said.
