The Denver Roller Dolls are slated to host the 2011 WFTDA Championships at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado, the weekend of Nov. 11-13. The venue promises to be awash with folks from all walks of the derby-verse, and the Denver Roller Dolls couldn’t be happier.

“The Denver Roller Dolls are honored and excited to host the 2011 WFTDA Championships. We love our venue and look forward to sharing it with some of the best skaters in the world,” Andrea "Kendra Blood" Hill, Denver Roller Dolls PR Director.

The Roller Dolls are no stranger to the venue, having bouted there since the beginning of 2010. Situated just outside of Denver, the 1STBANK Center offers great amenities for the skaters, fans and support staff. It also provides for general admission VIP seating, as well as reserved VIP seating. And, there will be ample room for team merchandise and other derby vendors.

“It’s our goal to really treat the skaters and support staff like the VIPs they are. We’re looking after details like transportation from the airport and food at the venue so they can focus on the work to be done on the track!” Hill said.

This is not the Denver Roller Dolls’ first time hosting a major event; the team co-hosted “Derby on the Rocks,” the 2009 West Region Playoffs. The team hopes to use the knowledge they gained from that experience to help hone their hosting prowess this year. Denver, seeded #3 in their region at the start of tournament season, just missed participating in the Championships after early losses in the West Region Playoffs this year.

“We cut our teeth on tournament hosting before when we co-hosted the West Region Playoffs with [Rocky Mountain Rollergirls] in 2009, and are looking to make this an even bigger success. Looking forward to seeing everyone a mile high!” Hill said.

In related news, Denver Roller Dolls co-founder Erin Blakemore was recently featured on Bob Edwards Weekend with her “This I Believe” essay, “The Sisterhood of Roller Derby.” Check it out by visiting http://thisibelieve.org/essay/12005/
