This fall there is a new reason to travel to Jacksonville as the 2015 International WFTDA Playoffs will take place in our lovely downtown Sept. 18-21 at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center. We say "new" reason because Jacksonville already has so many diverse activities that attracts thousands of visitors to this amazing area each year!
If sports are your primary interest, in addition to the top-tier roller derby talent taking place all weekend, you can check out the Jaguars of the NFL, or the Axemen--the national champion rugby team that plays out at University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium. You can also catch a professional soccer game as the Armada take on their foes, or see some championship-level baseball via the Jacksonville Suns.
Maybe nature is more your style when you aren't watching world-class athletics. If this describes you, you are in luck! Jacksonville is home to the largest urban park system in the United States, with more than 110,000 acres of parks, including the 500 acres of protected forest and wildlife, with hiking trails, fishing, and canoeing open to the public at the University of North Florida. We also have the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, home to more than 1,400 animals and 1,000 unique plant species.
Coming south with your family in tow? No problem! There's tons of fun for everyone , with plenty to do for $10 or less! You can hit up the Jacksonville Beach Fishing Pier for $1 per pedestrian or $4 a fisherman. You can, of course, hit the beach for some fun in the sun! Choose from Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Huguenot Memorial Park, and Hanna Park.
Looking for culture? Check out the Riverwalk or any one of our amazing museums.
There's so much to do in this beautiful city, the Jacksonville Rollergirls can’t wait to welcome the WFTDA community here!
Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
