Levels of Certification

There are five levels of Certification available for both NSOs and Referees.

Level 1

Demonstrates the skills required to perform the duties of an Official:

NSO Referee
Attended a WFTDA Officiating Clinic within two years of the application date Attended a WFTDA Officiating Clinic within two years of the application date
Verification of passed WFTDA NSO Rules and Procedures test Verification of passed WFTDA Referee Rules test
Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct
Must have officiated five (5) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games Submitted Skating Skills Assessment

Level 2

Able to perform officiating duties for WFTDA sanctioned interleague play:

NSO Referee
Three (3) Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague Games Must have officiated three (3) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games
Verification of passed WFTDA NSO Rules and Procedures test Three (3) Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague Games
Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct Verification of passed WFTDA Referee Rules test
Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct
Submitted Skating Skills Assessment

Level 3

Able to exceptionally perform officiating duties for WFTDA sanctioned interleague play:

NSO Referee
Currently certified Level 2 or higher Currently certified Level 2 or higher
Must have officiated at least five (5) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games Must have officiated at least five (5) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games
Five (5) Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games Five (5) Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games
Verification of passed WFTDA NSO Rules and Procedures test Verification of passed WFTDA Referee Rules test
Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct
Holds at least one (1) NSO Endorsement Submitted Skating Skills Assessment

Level 4

Able to exceptionally perform officiating duties for the highest level of WFTDA competitive play:

NSO Referee
Currently certified Level 3 or higher Currently certified Level 3 or higher
Must have officiated at least seven (7) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games Must have officiated at least seven (7) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games
Seven (7) Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games. Three (3) of these must be from a Head NSO; two (2) must be from a Head Referee Seven (7) Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games.Three (3) of these must be from WFTDA member league authorized representatives or WFTDA elected/appointed personnel authorized to submit evaluations
Letter of recommendation from at least one (1) Level 3 or higher certified Official (NSO or Referee) Letter of recommendation from at least one (1) Level 3 or higher certified Referee
Verification of passed WFTDA NSO Rules and Procedures test Verification of passed WFTDA Referee Rules test
Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct Signed WFTDA Officiating Code of Conduct
Holds at least two (2) NSO Endorsements Submitted Skating Skills Assessment

Level 5

Able to exceptionally perform officiating duties and administrative tasks and responsibilities of a WFTDA Tournament Head Official, and be able to exceptionally perform officiating duties for the highest level of WFTDA competitive play:

NSO Referee
Currently certified Level 4 or higher Currently certified Level 4 or higher
Must have officiated at least seven (7) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games Must have officiated at least seven (7) WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games
Seven (7) Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games. Three (3) of these must be from a Head NSO; two (2) must be from a Head Referee Seven (7) Referee Performance Evaluations from WFTDA Regulation or Sanctioned Interleague games. Three (3) of those Performance Evaluations must be from WFTDA member league authorized representatives or WFTDA elected/appointed personnel authorized to submit evaluations
Letter of recommendation from at least three (3) Level 3 or higher certified Official (NSO or Referee) Letter of recommendation from at least three (3) Level 3 or higher certified Referees

Previous experience as a Tournament Head NSO at a WFTDA Tournament or equivalent Previous experience as a Tournament Head Referee at a WFTDA Tournament or equivalent
